SPORT, HEALTH & SOLIDARITY – LET’S RUN TOGETHER

What is Running Doctors?

Running Doctors is a unique initiative developed for the Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon, designed to bring qualified medical and healthcare support directly into the heart of the event.

Along the race course, participants will encounter a dedicated presence: the Running Doctors.

Each Running Doctor will receive complimentary race entry and the official race shirt from Napoli Running.

How does it work?

Runners who are also qualified healthcare professionals, including licensed physicians, nurses, and certified first-aid responders, will take part in the event. The Running Doctors will be positioned along the course according to their running pace, ensuring even coverage throughout the entire route.

This presence strengthens the existing medical and safety system, offering runners an additional layer of support and reassurance during the race.

Why Running Doctors?

Running Doctors is a concrete expression of attention to runners’ health and safety. It transforms a shared passion for running into an act of responsibility, solidarity, and service.

The project highlights the importance of:

  • Prevention and rapid intervention
  • Support and presence along the course
  • Community support during sporting events

How to recognize the Running Doctors?

Each Running Doctor will carry a highly visible flag.

Who are the Running Doctors?

Running Doctors are qualified healthcare professionals, including licensed physicians, nurses, and certified first-aid responders, who are also runners. By combining their clinical expertise with hands-on racing experience, they can act quickly, calmly, and effectively in real race conditions.

Becoming a Running Doctor means taking an active role in the event, putting professional skills at the service of others, and embodying the core values of sport: commitment, altruism, and teamwork.

More than medical support

Running Doctors is not just a safety service. It is a symbol of care in motion, where every step represents trust, responsibility, and human connection.

Every intervention, every grateful glance, and every shared kilometer tells the story of a community that values life, prevention, and mutual support.

Visibility and impact

Thanks to its originality and strong human value, the Running Doctors project enjoys significant media visibility and has the potential to inspire other healthcare professionals, runners, and event organizers to adopt similar initiatives.

Running Doctors is a new way to be present, useful, and part of something bigger: running together when it really matters.

Official Health Plan – Safety Comes First

Participant safety is a top priority for the Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon. For this reason, a comprehensive health plan has been developed to ensure prompt and effective medical assistance throughout the course and in key event areas.

The service is implemented in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross Naples Committee and coordinated by highly qualified personnel, in constant contact with the Operations Room and local hospitals.

A comprehensive assistance system

A structured medical network will be active throughout the race to provide rapid intervention at any point along the course, including:

  • Official Race Doctor, responsible for coordinating all medical operations
  • 3 emergency ambulances with driver, doctor, and nurse, positioned at strategic points along the course
  • 1 emergency ambulance with driver and nurse near the Advanced Medical Post (PMA)
  • Advanced Medical Post (PMA) set up by the Italian Army, located near the start/finish area, ready to handle urgent situations
  • 2 medical motorcycles equipped with defibrillators, able to move quickly even in crowded areas
  • 3 on-foot first-aid teams distributed along the course, equipped with life-saving devices, including AEDs

All personnel are certified in first aid and AED use, ensuring constant professional coverage throughout the event.

Coordination and timeliness

Thanks to the Italian Red Cross coordinators, the entire medical system will operate through a centralized command structure. This allows real-time monitoring of incidents, rapid activation of transfers to hospitals, and continuous oversight of all operational points.

Medical support at the Sport Expo

A reduced medical service will also be available in the days leading up to the race, including during the Family Run & Friends and at the Expo, providing assistance to participants and visitors in the official event areas.
